Potluck Recap and Photos

Thanks to everyone who turned out to make our host family gathering such a success! We had around 50 au pairs and over 25 host families in attendance. It was so fun to try all the different (yummy!) foods from all around the world, and to see families and au pairs mingling and forging new friendships. I’m already looking forward to our next potluck!
I’ve posted my photos from this event on our photo page. My camera was having a bad day, so some of the pictures are a bit blurry (though still fun to look at.) If any of you took photos that came out better than mine, I’d love it if you would share them. You can post them directly to our share site, or email them to me and I will add them to our album.

Please join us as we kick off the holiday season with a Host Family Party!
Date: Sunday, November 15th
Time: 4:00-6:00 pm
Place: Hiawatha Community Center: 2700 California Ave SW
Bring: A dish that represents your au pair’s home country. It can be a drink, a dessert, an appetizer or a main dish, whatever you choose. This would be a fun cooking project for au pairs to do together with their host families. Please, put your heart into this and help make this meeting a memorable one!
You’ll receive invitations in the mail next week. Please RSVP to me via phone or email by November 6th.
August Au Pair Meeting: Saturday, August 29th at 7:00 pm

For our August meeting, we will be attending a Seattle Storm Basketball game at Key Arena in Seattle Center. The Storm plays in the Women’s National Baskeball League (the WNBA.) For those of you who have never seen a basketball game before, you are in for a treat!
The game starts at 7:00, so plan to be there no later than 6:45 to get your ticket. The address of Key Arena is 305 Harrison Street. I will meet you at the Will Call window, which is at the East Box Office (on the East side of Key Arena, across from the International Fountain.) If you arrive late, go ahead and pick up your ticket from the Will Call window by showing photo identification and then meet the rest of us at your seat.
Semira’s group of au pairs will also be going to the game. I encourage you to carpool with each other if possible. For those of you taking the bus, you can use Metro’s trip planner to find a route that serves Key Arena.
I will need to collect $15.00 for your ticket by August 2nd. If you didn’t give me your money at the picnic last weekend, please be sure to get it in the mail this week and email me to confirm you are planning to attend.
If you don’t know much (or anything!) about basketball, click here for a basic description of the rules of play.
You can visit the Seattle Storm website for more information on the team.
